The consolation game at the Wheatley Girls Holiday Basketball Tournament was a match-up of contrasting styles - Plainedge being guard oriented would run through their offensive sets and later on handle Clarke's pressure while Clarke had the bigger frontline. Plainedge struggled to score in the first quarter against Clarke's frontline of Matil Mangual, Dana Dunwoody and Lauren Meade. Meanwhile, despite having the height advantage, Clarke couldn't finish in the paint as well as they should have. These missed opportunities allowed Plainedge to not only stay close in the first quarter but eventually open a 15 - 8 lead midway through the second quarter. Gina Milone (All-Tournament) and Shannon Steubing would score 8 of Plainview's 10 points, while holding Clarke scoreless for 5 minutes. Clarke would close the half trailing by one as Laura Schmitt sank a free throw with no time left on the clock. Clarke opened the second half with two quick baskets to grab the lead 20 - 18. Gina Milone would tie the score for Plainedge with 6:30 to go in the 3rd quarter. With 4:19 to go, Clarke would get to within one 24 - 23, only to be outscored 10 - 0 the rest of the quarter. In the 4th quarter, the lead grew to 14, Clarke would make a run late in the 4th quarter but couldn't get any closer tham 10 as they continued to struggle in the paint. Clarke's Matil Mangual was named to the All-Tounament team. Plainedge's ability to handle Clarke's pressure and push the ball up the court, allowed them to negate Clarke's size advantage at the defensive end of the court. Clarke's Michelle Hartmann does a nice job running the point, she just has to slow down at times and get the ball to the post players without forcing it to them. Plainedge: 5 - 18 - 34 - 43, Clarke: 8 - 17 - 23 - 35.
