24TH ANNUAL BARABRA HOFFMAN BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT PDF Print E-mail
Sponsored by the Manhasset Booster Club, the championship game played at Manhasset HS could have passed for a NASCAR race. The pace of this game was played at such a pace that you had to question which team would be standing at the end. The first quarter ended with North Shore leading 17 - 16. The second quarter was no different except North Shore was able to continue their scoring while New Rochelle struggled, often settling for outside shots. North Shore lead at half 31 - 21. New Rochelle came out pressing and hit two quick threes to close within 6 points. North Shore responded with a 9 - 0, to go up 42 - 27. New Rochelle just couln't get anything going, inside or outside while North Shore continued to disect the New Rochelle press, scoring at the buzzer on a text book press break. In the 4th quarter, North Shore appeared to run out of gas as New Rochell'e press started to create turnovers. They also started to attack the interior of North Shore's defense. New Rochelle would close to within 5 points only to see North Shore go back up by 11. New Rochelle would have one more run in them as they closed to 55 - 49, but down the stretch New Rochelle couldn't convert at the free throw line.  The difference in the game was free throws, North Shore's ability to handle the press and number 5 Kristen Reynolds (Tournament MVP). Reynolds was dominating at all aspects of the game - scoring, handling the ball and defending. New Rochelle's Alyse Padula (All-Tournament) did a nice job leading her team. Westbury's Shemique Hooks, Manhasset's Eileen Gaffney and North Shore's Kristin McCormick were also named to the All-Tournament team. North Shore: 17 - 31 - 48 - 60, New Rochelle: 16 - 21 - 32 - 53
