Panthers Succumb to League’s Best Team
Purchase, NY – The effort was there for 40 minutes, but the task wasn’t an easy one for the Purchase College women’s basketball team.
Ultimately, the Panthers had no answers for the best team in the Skyline Conference – Mount Saint Mary. The first-place Blue Knights improved to 8-1 on an 82-59 win, improving their conference record to a perfect 4-0.
Four players finished in double figure scoring for the Blue Knights, including Chantel Anthony (15), Shannon Sangster (11), Meredith Paggi (11) and Catie Biordi (10).
Purchase received solid contributions from Jennifer Danio (JR/Staten Island, NY), who led the Panthers with 13 points. Playmaker Jennifer Ciardulli (JR/Centereach, NY) played the best all-around game, scoring 12, grabbing six rebounds and dishing a team-high seven assists, including some beautiful passes in the first half to Danio.
Purchase (3-4, 1-2 Skyline) trailed 49-29 at the half and never fully recovered. The Blue Knights out-rebounded Purchase 46-40 and shot 42-percent to the Panthers’ 32-percent.
The Panthers will try to bounce back at home Monday night against Brooklyn College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
