DUNN RECORDS CAREER HIGHS DURING 68-66 LOSS TO BRIDGEPORT
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Junior Katelyn Dunn (Bethpage, NY) recorded a career high 15 points and a career high 16 rebounds as the Molloy College women’s basketball team fell to the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport on December 8. The 68-66 East Coast Conference loss drops the Lady Lions to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference, while the Purple Knights improve to 3-4 and 2-2.
The first half saw both teams battling back and forth for the lead. During the first 17 minutes of play, there were ten tie scores but a basket by Dunn put the Lady Lions up by four (33-29) in the final minute of the first. However, a basket by Bridgeport at the buzzer cut Molloy’s deficit to two (33-31) at intermission.
During the second half, Molloy and Bridgeport fought for the advantage but with seven minutes left, Bridgeport took a five point edge (55-50). The Lady Lions answered back with six straight points to regain the lead (56-55). With just under three minutes left in the game, Molloy had a one point advantage and would keep the lead for the next two minutes. However, the Purple Knights kept battling as a lay-up by Sidney Parsons gave Bridgeport the edge (66-65), which they would not lose in the final minute for the 68-66 conference victory.
Sophomore Tatiana Lopez (Lakeview, NY) led the Lady Lions with 17 points, while Dunn finished with 15 points and 16 rebound. Sophomore E.J. Dreyer (Floral Park, NY) had 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals and senior Randi Bender (North Bellmore, NY) contributed 11 points.
The Lady Lions remain home as they host the University of New Haven on Wednesday, December 12. The East Coast Conference game is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
