Murrer's 26 Powers Women's Basketball Over Queens, 69-39

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Dec. 12, 2007) – Junior forward Whitney Murrer (Richmond, Va.) netted a game-high 26 points as C.W. Post upended Queens College, 69-39, in an East Coast Conference women’s basketball clash Wednesday evening at the Pratt Recreation Center.
The Pioneers rebound from Monday night’s loss to UMass Lowell and improve their overall record to 4-4 with a 4-0 clip in the conference. Queens falls to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
The Pioneers opened the game on a 10-2 run as Murrer shot 7-of-9 from the floor for 14 first half points. The Pioneers’ defense kept the Knights to a .286 (6 of 21) shooting percentage and forced 17 turnovers.
The Knights’ offense was led in the first half by freshman forward Jamie DiChiara, who contributed with three jumpers and four baskets at the line.
At the break, the Pioneers held a 26-17 lead.
C.W. Post returned to the court in the second frame on a 25-7 run that carried over until DiChiara swished a jumper at 9:09. The Pioneers continued to build their lead and closed out the game with a jumper from senior guard Basimah Thompson (Galloway, N.J.) with 39 seconds remaining.
Murrer finished the game with 25 points with seven rebounds, two blocks and two thefts. Thompson added 19 points with eight rebounds along with five assists and four steals.
For the Knights, DiChiara led the team with 14 points on 5 of 6 shooting from the floor.
The Pioneers outscored Queens in the paint, 28-18.
C.W. Post will travel to play at Bloomfield on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. The Pioneers will host their next home contest against American International on Jan. 2 at 6 p.m.
