IONA TRIUMPHS AT HOME ONCE AGAIN WITH 92-79 WIN OVER NEW HAMPSHIRE

New Rochelle, NY - The Iona College women's basketball team won its second straight contest and third of the season at home. The Gaels (4-5) turned a 20 point halftime lead into a 92-79 victory over the University of New Hampshire (3-6).

Anda Ivkovic was Iona's leading scorer with 17 points, followed by 15 from Anna McLean. Lauren DeFalco was stellar on the night, posting a double-double with 13 points and ten steals. Her nine assists left her just one assist short of a triple-double.

Candace Williams had a game-high 22 points for the Wildcats, with Jacinda Williams and Danise Beliveau trailing with 12 each.

The Gaels were strong from the start, leading by as much as 26 in the first period. Both sides struggled to hold on to the ball in a contest that saw 59 combined turnovers. Iona scored 44 of its 92 points off turnovers, while also getting good production from its reserves with 37 points off the bench.

The Wildcats shot 64.5% from the field in the second half which enabled them to cut into their mid-game deficit. Trailing by 28 points at 77-49, UNH went on a 17-4 run to trim the margin down to 15 points with 4:51 remaining. That was as close as they would get until an Amy Simpson layup before the final buzzer, as Iona cruised to the win.

The Maroon & Gold returns to action in North Carolina with a contest at Campbell on Dec. 15.
