Dec. 21st - Friday: Long Beach 12 - 32 - 50 - 71, Mepham 7 - 17 - 27 - 34. It is amazing what one player, with the ability of Jazmine Pitts, can do for a program. Long Beach has already matched last years total wins of 3, with a shot at winning the league title. Pitts spent most of the first quarter trying to get her teammates involved at the offensive end, while Mepham came out playing tentatively. Despite playing poorly, Mepham only trailed 12 - 7 as the quarter ended. Mepham went over 5 minutes without scoring. In the second quarter, Pitts took over the game as she scored 15 of her teams 20 points. Mepham settled down and was able to handle Long Beach's pressure. Mepham's guards started to feed both Samantha Zintl and Lauren Johnson in the post. Unfortunately for Mepham they couldn't finish on a number of opportunities. The third quarter saw Mepham open up with a 6 - 0 run to close to withion 32 - 23. Over the next 4 minutes Long Beach would outscore Mepham 14 - 0, to go up 46 - 23. The quarter would end with Mepham trailing 50 - 27. Pitts scored 8 of her teams 10 points to open the 4th quarter as Long Beach went up 60 - 28. With 6 minutes to go both teams emptied their benches. For Long Beach, they will ride Pitts as far as she can take them, it will be interesting to see how Long Beach fares when they play their crossover games. As for Mepham, their key players are young and their success depends on how they develop as the season progresses.
