GARDEN CITY DEFEATS BAY SHORE PDF Print E-mail
Dec. 22nd - Saturday: Garden City 21 - 40 - 50 - 65, Bay Shore 11 - 20 - 33 - 47. A depleted Bay Shore team was overwhlemed by Garden City's tenacious pressure, which resulted in not only numerous turnovers but a number of fouls called against the Garden City defenders. At one point, Garden City was up 16 - 2. When Bay Shore was able to handle the press, they were able to get the ball inside to Ebonique Williams. Meanwhile, Garden City received scoring from five different players with many of their points coming off turnovers. Garden City shot 9 for 10 from the free throw line. Bay Shore settled down in the second quarter and was able to get to the foul line - where they missed 9 of 10 free throws. Garden City would close out the 2nd quarter with a 9 - 0 run to go up 40 - 20. In the second half, Bay Shore sustained a more balanced attack at the offensive end - scoring inside and outside. Defensively though, they couldn't contain Garden City enough to get back into the game. Garden City was led by Becky Lynch and Diana Leondis. The Trojans shot 11 for 12 from the free throw line in the first half. Garden City has lost two close league games to Manhasset and Wantagh. Bay Shore has lost a number players over the last two years due to graduation and others leaving the team for prep schools. This year, the team will rely on a number of players such as Dakota Smith, Taylor Lombardo, Ebonique Williams and Najia Bangs, all of who didn't get much playing time last season on th evarsity level. Brittany Torres, the lone returning veteran, will have to provide much needed leadership until the younger inexperienced players gain confidence in their abilities. Bangs has got to do a better job handling the ball against pressure while Taylor Lombardo dropped 4 three and showed no fear in shooting the ball.
