The outcome was not only decided by Walker and Gibson outplaying Simmons and Banos but the play of Chelsea Wiliams (14 points) and Dominique Cunningham (18 points plus her defensive play) contributed as well. The bemch also provided 19 points. Gibson struggled offensively but provided solid defense throughout the game. Copiague's defense focused early on Simmons and Banos, which allowed Cara Savarese to score early and often. Early in the game, Copiague missed numerous open layups, allowing Syosset to hang around. Syosset would go on a 6 - 0 run to close out the 1st quarter. Savarese scored 12 points in the quarter. In the second quarter, Copiague continued to struggle finishing and trailed 26 -21 with 4:10 left. Over the last 4 minutes, Copiague would go on a 13 - 2 run to grab a 6 point half time lead. The 4th quarter was a mere formaility, as Syosset was never able to put together any kind of run. Besides Walker, Copiague got big games from Williams and Cunnnigham. At times, Syosset appeared not to be playing in unison. With league play opening up after the break full fledged, Copiague is going to need more than just Walker. Gibson, Williams and Cunningham are going to have to produce consistently with an occasional breakout game from one of the role players. Syosset will look to Simmons, Banos, Cara Savarese and Kim Rudini but they need to recognize open teammates sooner and without hesistation.
