DEC. 28TH: CENTEREACH VS SOUTHOLD |

Centereach 12 - 18 - 27 - 36, Southold 1 - 5 - 8 - 18. In the consolation game of the Newfield Hoop Dreams Holiday Tournament, Southold was completely over-whelmed by Centereach. Southold would not score until Kim Von Bourgendien went to the foul line at the 2:08 mark, where she went one for two. Those would be the only points Southold would score in the first period. It was also the first time Von Bourgendien touched the ball in the offensive end of the court. Meanwhile, Centereach's Kelsey Lohsen and Theresa Foley were constantly fed by their teammates in the paint. In the second quarter, Southold did a much better job at the defensive end yet still struggled on the offensive end. Southold needs to make a better effort in getting the ball to Von Bourgendien, even if on a wing where she could be creative and try to drive to the basket. Se is smart enough to know that if the defense collapses then she would kick the ball out to open teammates. Centereach's guards probably could have run more and created better scoring opportunites but they were patient to a fault, trying to find open teammates behind Southold's defense. In league play, they are going to have to establish an outside game where they will face stiffer competition. In the third quarter, Southold tried to get the ball to Von Bourgendien but many times it was either too late or she was not in a good scoring spot. Centereach held Southold scoreless for over 6 minutes. To Southold's credit, they held Centereach scoreless for 3 minutes. Von Bourgendien didn't score in this quarter unitl there were 6 seconds left. Again give Southold credit as their players didn't quit and played the 4th quarter even with Centereach. Both teams would go almost 4 minutes each without scoring. Southold is going to have do a better job handling the ball against pressure, getting Von Bourgendien more involved in the offense and have other players step up and be able to score with consistency. As stated earlier, Centereach is going to have to develop an outside game to open up the middle for Foley and Lohsen, they are going to struggle against teams with more athletic guards and their conference is loaded with athletic guards. One thing I watched for was how Von Bourgendien is handling being on a much weaker team than in the past - to her credit she played hard and was constantly urging her teammates on. Kim Von Bourgendien and Theresa Foley were named to All Tournament team.
