|
Bay Shore 8 - 16 - 28 - 38, Smithtown Christian 2 - 7 - 17 - 21. Bay Shore held Smithtown Christian scoreless until there were 31 seconds left in the quarter. With an obvious size advantage, Bay Shore could have done a better job pounding the ball inside to wear down the smaller frontline of Smithtown Christian. On a positive note - Bay Shore did get balanced scoring as 4 players scored in the 1st quarter. Throughout the remainder of the game, Bay Shore would have to decide whether or not to go inside against smaller team or continue to settle for outside shots which weren't falling, especially from beyond the arc. Bay Shore scored two quick baskets to go up 12 - 2. Fortumately for them, Smithtown Christian was struggling to score. Smithtown Christian would get their first and only offensive rebound of the first half, when Katy Sassman got a weak side rebound and scored. Sassman did a good job at the defensive end battling the bigger Bay Shore post players, while the team did a commendable job overall defensively. In the third quarter, Bay Shore made more of an effort to get their post involved in the offense. Dakota Smith and Ebonique Williams would combine to score 8 points. Meanwhile, Taylor Lombardo continued to struggle from the outside, whereas the week prior against Garden City she was unconscious. Smithtown Christian came out pressing and scored the first two baskets to pull within 16 - 11. They didn't seem to be as intimidated, and played with much more aggression. Coach Clay also inserted Emily Carmel into the lineup and she responded by scoring 6 points in the quarter. In the 4th quarter with Smithtown Christian putting so much emphasis on their interior defense, Bay Shore's outside shooting started to come alive. Eight of the the ten points came from outside (15 - 18 foot range). Smithtown Christian's players were exhausted by the 4th quarter from the physical wear and tear of defending the bigger Bay Shore players. As tired as they were they continued to battle but the shots wouldn't fall. Bay Shore has lost a number of players over the last couple of years but Coach Danowski keep plugging away. They should end up in the midfdle of their league, but they are going to have to scrap for every basket. In the second half, they did a much better job looking to the post players, which gave them better looks from the outside later in the game. Brittany Torres did a nice job keeping everyone involved while also looking to score. As for Smithtown Christian, Carmel has to got play more - she was the olnly player other than point guard Erin Meade looking to shoot the ball. Meade does a nice job running things for her team but a number of her passes were mishandled. In league play, she might have to look to score more. Smithtown Christian is going to have to do a better job on the offensive boards. They grabbed 2 offensive rebounds the entire game. Erin Meade and Brittany Torres were named ot the All-Tournament team.
