Syosset 17 - 31 - 45 - 65, Roslyn 8 - 23 - 34 - 57. Syosset's Kim Rudini hit her first two shots, added two free throws and Syosset was off and running. The lead would grow to 9 - 2 before Roslyn ran off 6 points to close to within 9 - 8. Syosset clamped down on defense while they closed out the quarter on an 8 point run led by Christine Banos' 5 points. Syosset's lead grew to 12 points as Kim Savarese hit a jumper from the foul line. Roslyn, which had played most of the half without any energy, turned to pressing the Syosset ball handlers. The result was a 9 - 2 run, and suddenly Roslyn trailed by 5. Remember Rudini, scoreless since the first 2 minutes off the quarter, she nailed a big three to stop Roslyn's run. Syosset's lead was back to 8. Syosset definitely moved the ball better, finding open teammates for easy looks. Roslyn was sloppy at times witrh the ball and played with little energy for most of the half. If Roslyn was going to make a run, it would have been during the third period. Savarese picked up her 4th foul at the 7 minute mark and then fouled out 1 minute later. Question - why didn't coach get her out when 4th foul was whistled? Connie Simmons then picked up her 3rd and 4th fouls within 30 seconds of each other. When Simmons left the court, Syosset was up 39 - 32. Over the last three minutes, Roslyn would only be able to sscore one basket to pull to within 5 with 2:34 left. Syosset's Banos and Rudini responded by scoring 6 points to close out the quarter. Syosset entered the 4th quarter up by 11. Roslyn was much more aggressive at the offensinve end they just couldn't finish. Simmons would remain on the bench until the miday point of the quarter. Roslyn was never able to mount any kind of run as Syosset matched them basket for basket. When Simmons returned, Roslyn still trailed by 11. Rudini would score 12 points in the last quarter, nailing a couple of big threes to keep Roslyn at bay. Roslyn's Carolyn Fann erupted for 16 points but it was too little, too late. Syosset did a much better job of moving the ball, finding open teammates and feeding the hot hand. The hot hand today was Kim Rudini. Going into league play they have a solid 4, who are going to have to work together, stay on the court and continue to contribute as they have all season. Question - is will this enough in their league? As for Roslyn they have got to bring the energy right from the opening tap. That energy source begins with Fann as she is capable of scoring on anyone. Morgan Carella is solid player, who should be looking to score more herself. Roslyn has a solid five that can and will be competitive in league play. They will have to do a better job of protecting the ball and finishing. Rudini and Fann were named to the All-Tournament team.
