Port Washington 16 - 33 - 43 - 48, East Meadow 6 - 14 - 22 - 27. Stability, Port Washington's coach has been a mainstay for a number of years, while East Meadow now has their third coach in 5 years. Port has a solid five players, led by Senior Jackie Mazzetta and 8th grader Paige Kriftcher. Along with Samantha Milhaven, they combined for 14 of Port's first 16 points. The one player who stood out for East Meadow in the first quarter was Senior Jenny Tracey. East Meadow's guards needed to be a little more patient with the ball and look to make that extra pass to teammates, who were open. Even though Port would go the last 2:12 without scoring, they held a 16 - 6 lead as the quarter ended. In the second quarter, Port extended their lead to 33 - 14. Again, Port did the better job of moving the ball and finding open teammates. East Meadow's guards scored 6 of the 8 points but have to decide if they are going to be scorers or passers. Port held East Meadow to one basket over the last 3:34 of the half. After spending the entire 10 minutes at half talking to her team, Coach Collins saw an improvement in her team's effort early in the third quarter. They seemed to be more aggressive on the defensive end while moving the ball better on the offensive end. East Meadow's Chrissy Curry socred the first 2 baskets of the quarter. Unfortunatley East Meaodw would struggle to score the remainder of the quarter, while Port did just enough to extend their lead to 43 - 22. The fourth quarter was mostly played by the reserves, which was evident by the inability to put the ball in the basket. Port would score once in the last 7:48 while East Meadow scored 3 points in the last 7:30. After watching Port, not sure if they will be able to handle the quicknees of Long Beach. But with that being siad, if they can contain Pitts and move the ball like they did against East Meadow, funnier things have happened. As for East Meadow, Coach Collins is going to have be patient and over time implement her style and passion for the game. The score might not reflect it but there is an obvious difference already between this year and last year.
