Farmingdale 17 - 26 - 35 - 45, PJFK 8 - 17 - 21 - 30. Two things stood out very quickly in this game. One, the intensity of one coach working the sideline while you could hardly hear the other coach. And second, the object of the game is to pass the ball to open teammates with a better chance to score - one team did, the team didn't. PJFK grabbed an early 6 - 2 lead by moving the ball and taking advantage of Farmingdale's inability to finish. Over the last 5 minutes, PJFK would score just 2 points while they were outscored 9 - 2. Farmingdale got back in the game, taking the lead for good by running the court, moving the ball and finding open teammates. Farmingdale extended the lead to 15 by halftime as they contiued to move the ball. In the second quarter, it became apparent that PJFK either doesn't understand that their are five players on a team or they don't want to. PJFK's Samantha Streck would tally 8 points in the first half only because she went after her teammates missed shots. The third quarter was no different as Farmingdale's lead grew to 14. The lead would have been larger had Farmingdale not gone 3 for 8 from the free throwe line. Meanwhile, Farmingdale's defense only had to key on two players who continuously tried to force up shots. PJFK was held to 2 baskets, as they went scoreless over the last 4:35 of the quarter. In the 4th quarter, PJFK went to the press and Farmingdale struggled with it briefly. Both coaches cleared their benches and let the reseves play the game out. Farmingdale is a young team that is going to develop as they gain experience. One thing that is obvious is that everyone is involved in this years offense, no longer relying on one or two players to carry they scoring load. All one has to do is look at the boxscores of their games to see the balanced scoring. Coach Cerrone has added Jessica Dlabola to his coaching staff - anyone who saw Jessica play knows she will definitely help Farmingdale's young guards. Farmingdale has a nice mix between Seniors Candace Rossi, Kate Thompson, Melissa Maier and Freshmen Kyra Ochwat, Kelly McPartland, Michelle Tiernan and Jamie Leone. The other thing that stood out was no matter what type of team Cerrone has, he is always coaching them. On the other hand, if body language could talk - it looks as if the PJFK coach doesn't want to be there. Certain players shoot too much, while others don't shoot enough. Arielle Schneider and Christina Raiti need to look to score more, one because they can and second it keeps defenses honest. The guards also need to work the ball inside more to Streck. PJFK might have used Priya Mistry more, just to give themselves more height inside. One interesting thing took place during the game - a PJFK player, who had played the entire game up to this point, was taken out of the game midway through the 4th quarter. When she went to bench, she took her uniform top off. With approx. 1:30 to go, the player to whom the uniform top belonged went into the game. Star player or not - you come unprepared you don't play.
