LAST WEEKS RECAP - HOLY TRINTY @ ST ANTHONYS PDF Print E-mail
After leaving Islip, I decided to head up to St Anthony's. Walked in during the second quarter with Holy Trinty barely holding off St Anthonys. Much like the Trinity - SJB game the defense was pretty intense, forcing both teams into numerous turnovers and rushed shots. In the third quarter, Holy Trinty would open a lead but couldn't build on that lead as St Anthony's head coach rotated out most of his starters. Sitting amongst the parents, you could hear their displeasure with this move. As the fourth quarter opened Trinity still had a substantial lead, or so you would have thought. With their starters back on the court, St. Anthony's started to chip away. Holy Trinity seemd to be laboring as St. Anthony's suddenly sensed they could win this game. Trinity would have numerous opportunities to extend their lead but their shots started to fall short. At the other end, the Friars hit a couple of threes and the momentum had swung. Trinity up by three late in the game would take an ill-advised 3 before taking valuable time off the clock. At the defensive end, St Anthony's beat the Trinity defenders consntantly to the basket scoring and picking up fouls. Trinity would have two more opportunities to score but atfer a timeout they turned the ball over leading to another basket by St Anthony's and a long three would fall short. A lot of this comeback has to be credited to Krisitne Best, who wouldn't let her teammates or coach quit. St. Anthony's has proven they are going to be a pest in the play-offs. In hindsight not sure what St Anthony's coach was thinking while he sat most of his starters in the 3rd quarter but it paid off in the 4th quarter. Holy Trinity might have needed a loss like this to bring them back down  to earth but they are going to have  to do a better job of shot selection and finishing as the playoffs approach.
