LAST WEEKS RECAP - PORT JEFFERSON @ STONY BROOK PDF Print E-mail
After leaving the Northport/Commack game and reading about the last meeting between these two teams, I wasn't too sure if I was going to make the trip east. In case you hadn't read the results, Stony Brook won the last meeting 61 - 11. When we entered the gym, Stony Brook was up 14 - 5 and looking like they were ready to roll over Port Jefferson again. Port Jefferson closed out the half on a 4  - 0 run and you could see a little lift in their step. At halftime, I learned that Stony Brook had left starters in late into the game in the last meeting. In the third quarter, Port Jefferson put together a couple of  4 - 0 runs to close the gap and then basically played even with Stony Brook the rest of the quarter. Port Jefferson did a nice job keying on Sadie Singer and Danielle Spiliotis, Sophomore Kristen Licari did an outstanding job defensively on Spiliotis holding her to 9 points after she scored 18 the first time around. Port Jefferson trailed by 2 going into the last quarter. Port Jefferson opened the 4th quarter scoring 10 straight points to go up 30 - 22. Port Jefferson's defense was smothering in the last quarter holding Stong Brook scoreless until the 1:08 mark. The game couldn't end quick enough for Port Jefferson as the players were able to pull off a 59 point turn around. In the second half, Alex Lanieri and Brennan Burke led Port Jefferson in scoring. At one point Port Jefferson had outscored Stony Brook 25 - 8. If these teams are to meet in the playoffs it should be very interesting.
