St. Anthony's wins battle of Huntington PDF Print E-mail

St. Anthony's defeated Huntington 45-40 but the score dosent really show how the game really was. St. Anthony's was up 16 at one point, and a big come back  by Huntington late in the game narrowed the score.

Huntington was slowed by zone defense after 9 to 2 run to open game.  Twice they dug themselves out of double digit holes in the second half.  A Huntington steal with a minute to go down 3 could have tied the game.  It was a 3 point game in the the final seconds until Taylor Flynn knocked down two free throws with 6 seconds left.  Great atmosphere!!!  Huntington has the best student fan section, very enthusiastic without being negative.  Fun to watch.

Huntington was led by Forster-(8pts, 11rebs) and Hicks-(13pts).  They were flustered by a 3-2 zone and shot selection was questionable. Although Hicks was 3-11 from three point land she buried 2 back to back late in the game to cut the lead to 3...(40-43)...

For St. Anthony's the big three did the job.  Flynn, senior guard committed to Cornell, controlled the team under pressure and nailed 4 threes to lead her team with 16 pts, 6 rebs, 3 stl, 3 ast.  Impelliozi a sophomore center chipped in 9 pts 5 ast, 7 rebs, 3 blks and Maurer, sophomore transfer from Ward Melville had 9 pts 5 stl and did alot of little things that dont get into the paper, nice addition for the Friars and gives them two quality underclassmen.  St. Anthony's used a 16-2 run to start the 3rd qtr to pull away, also using a zone to slow the high tempo of Huntington.  Great season opener both will contend for respective titles iin their leagues.
