Northsport Athletic Facility opened its doors yesterday with a slate of 10 great boys and girls basketball games highlighted by a matchup between 2 of Long Island's premier boys High School teams, Hills West and St Anthony's. The game was a see-saw battle throughout, resulting in an OT buzzer-beating win for the defending Long Island Class AA champs Colts of Hills West. Junior Emile Blackman went coast to coast and converted on a layup as time expired to give Hills a 62-60 victory. Tavon Sledge was outstanding on both ends, electryfing the crowd with high-flying dunks and above the rim blocks. Steven Pandales and Marco Peraica turned in strong performances for the Friars, who look like they will be a serious threat to capture the NSCHSAA title.
In Girls High School action, Northport was able to pull away from a talented Center Moriches team late to post a 6 point victory and an impressive LI Inferno team was able to put away Deer Park HS, who hung tough all night despite a tough shooting night from the field
