LOPEZ SCORES A CAREER HIGH AS WOMEN’S BASKETBALL DROPS ON FIRST DAY OF THE CATAWBA COMFORT SUITES CLASSIC
SALISBURY, NC- Sophomore Tatiana Lopez (Lakeview, NY) scored a career high 19 points as the Molloy College women’s basketball team dropped their first game of the Catawba Comfort Suites Classic to host, Catawba College on November 23. Lopez broke her old record of 17 points, which she set last season against Concordia College on January 13, 2007.
A jump shot by senior Kelly Quackenbush (Westbury, NY) and two free throws by senior Randi Bender (North Bellmore, NY) gave the Lady Lions their only lead of the game (4-3). Catawba (1-1) went on a 10-0 run to grab the 13-4 advantage and held a 16 point edge at halftime (34-18). The Lady Lions began the second half with a 7-3 run and cut their deficit to 12 (37-25). Catawba answered back and held the 56-31 lead with 11:31 left in the game. Molloy (0-3) fought back and Bender’s three pointer brought the Lady Lions to within 12 points (69-57) as 1:56 remained on the clock. However, Molloy ran out of time as they fell, 73-60.
Lopez led the Lady Lions with 19 points and Bender pitched in with 12 points. Sophomore Kymira Woodberry (Boston, MA) grabbed 13 rebounds and added nine points, as sophomore E.J. Dreyer (Floral Park, NY) contributed eight points and six steals.
The Lady Lions will take on Lenoir-Rhyne in the second day of the Catawba Comfort Suites Classic on November 24. Game time is set for 2:00 PM.
