WOMEN'S BASKETBALL STOPPED BY MANSFIELD

Mansfield, PA-Despite shooting 89% from the line, the Golden Lions took a 65-55 loss to Mansfield University on November 25.  Dowling drops to 1-3 on the season while Mansfield tallies their first win to even out at 1-1.

The Golden Lions were off to a rough start as Mansfield grabbed a 12 points hold (20-8) with a three pointer from Alicia Espigh ten minutes into play.  Dowling began to chip away at the lead as Mirna Araujo (Barinitas, Barinas-Venezuela) connected for five points, but Dowling would still trail.  With three minutes remaining in the half, Shanasia Franklin (Uniondale, NY) drained a long one and Vio Badinici (Turku, Finland) converted her steal into a basket to cut the Mansfield lead to six.  Badinici nailed a three with a minute and a half to play to leave the Golden Lions trailing by only three points at the half.

Dowling fought basket for basket in the opening minutes of second half play.  However, they would find themselves trailing by as much as fourteen with seven minutes to play (54-40).  In the end, the Golden Lions would only come within ten as Mansfield notched their first victory on the season with a 65-55 win.

Franklin led all players with 20 points, going 6-for-10 overall, including a perfect 2-for-2 from three point range.  Molly Tubridy (Broad Channel, NY) was second with 14 points while pulling down 8 rebounds for the Golden Lions.

Espigh led four Mountaineers in double digits as she finished with 16 on the day.

Dowling kicks off conference play on November 28 when they travel to the University of Bridgeport to take on the Purple Knights at 5:00 PM
