BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (Nov. 28, 2007) – Sophomore guard #Gina Catherall# (Bayside, N.Y.) led the Pioneers with 14 points and junior guard Katrina Ware (Newark, N.J.) chipped in with ten points Wednesday night at Pratt Recreation Center, and C.W. Post scored 20 points off 27 New York Institute of Technology turnovers as the hosts captured a 70-47 victory over the visiting Bears in its East Coast Conference opener.Host C.W. Post (1-3, 1-0 ECC) never trailed in the contest, jumping out to an early 12-2 lead following a #Jasmine Moore# (Bronx, N.Y.) 3-pointer. The Bears would close to within two points with eight minutes left in the first half, but a layup by Moore sparked a 14-5 run and the Pioneers opened up a 34-23 lead going into halftimeAfter the Bears but the Pioneer advantage to nine points (40-31) with 12:28 to go in the second half, C.W. Post put together a 8-2 run and outscored NYIT 30-16 the rest of the way to close out the game. Catherall was a game-high 7 for 9 from the charity stripe, and Ware was 3 for 8 from the field. Catherall and senior guard Basimah Thompson (Galloway, N.J.) each dished out three assists, while Moore grabbed a game-high four steals. Junior forward Whitney Murrer (Richmond, N.J.) pulled down 10 rebounds.NYIT had a 32.6 percent (15-for-46) field goal shooting clip on the night, and received 12 points from Freda Elston.Head coach Sharrona Reaves and the Pioneers will next play on Saturday at 1 p.m., when they host Bridgeport for another East Coast Conference match-up.
