YAWN HIGH SCORER AS DOWLING DROPS TO BRIDGEPORT

Bridgeport, CT-Michelle Yawn (Walker, LA) led all players with 15 points and 9 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Golden Lions to victory as they fell, 54-61, to the Purple Knights of the University of Bridgeport on November 28.  Dowling drops to 1-4 on the season with a 0-1 mark in the ECC while the Purple Knights sit 2-2 and kick off conference play with 1-0 mark.

The purple knights opened play with back to back buckets and would go on to hold the lead for the entire 40 minutes.

Dowling came within one point twice in the first half with a pair of free throws from Molly Tubridy (Broad Channel, NY) and a three-pointer form Mirna Araujo.

The Golden Lions were fired up in the second half.  Nikkeia Daniels (North Brentwood, MD) knotted the score for the first time (44-44) with a layup at the ten minute mark and then again with 8:33 remaining on free throws (46-46).  The Purple Knights pulled away with a five point edge and carried their hold through the final minutes.

Daniels was the only other Golden Lions to score in the double digits, finishing with 12 points.

Monique Ross led the Purple Knight offense with 12 points while Ana-Marie Kammer pitched in with 11 points.  Shannon Malone and Linda Durmen Blunt rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points apiece.
