In the first game of the Nassau-Suffolk Challenge, Harborfields was able to overcome sloppy play and hold off Floral Park. The first half saw tons of turnovers and missed shots with Floral Park leading 13 - 12. In the second half Harborfields, regained the lead 20 -19 with 3:17 to go. Harborfields would run off 9 straight (sparked by Kelly Ryan) to open a 10 point lead. Floral Parks Erica Re scored with 44 seconds left to stop the bleeding. Harborfileds opened the 4th quarter with 4 quick points to go back up by ten. Floral Park would run off 8 straight points to get within 32 - 30, only to go the next 3 minutes without scoring. Harborfields would go up 36 - 30 with 31.2 seconds to go, Floral Park never got closer. Harborfields was led by Kelly Ryan (17 pts) and Michelle Caravella (8 pts), while Shannon Ingram of Floral Park scored 9 points. Teammates Erica Re and Kate Hartnett added 8 points each. The outcome was decided by Harborfields defense, the guard play of Melissa Luxemberg and Michelle Caravella, at the free throw line and turnovers.
